Media Spotlights Indiana Boy Undergoing Reconstructive Surgery at UCLA
A Jan. 13 News Link Indiana story profiled a 12-year-old Indiana boy born with Pierre Robin Syndrome who is undergoing a series of facial reconstructive surgeries at UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital. Member’s of the boy’s community have been raising money to help pay for his medical costs. His surgeon, Dr. James Bradley, chief of pediatric plastic surgery at UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital, was mentioned.

Local News Spotlights UCLA’s Pediatric Craniofacial Clinic
On Jan. 20, KCOP Ch. 13 news spotlighted the craniofacial clinic at UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital. The story also mentioned the Facing Forward Foundation, which helps support the UCLA clinic. Dr. James Bradley, chief of pediatric plastic surgery, was interviewed.

Telemundo Airs Update on Girl Undergoing Series of Reconstructive Facial Surgeries
On May 1, Telemundo’s KVEA Channel 54 updated viewers on their exclusive story of a 4-year-old girl from Mexico with a rare facial tumor who is undergoing a series of reconstructive surgeries at UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA. Dr. James Bradley, chief of pediatric plastic surgery, was interviewed.

Briefs and Quotables:

Dr. Andrew Da Lio, assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery, was interviewed by KCBS 740AM on April 13 about a FDA panel recommendation to allow silicone-gel breast implants manufactured by Mentor back on the market, lifting a nearly 13 year ban.

Dr. Timothy Miller, chief of plastic surgery, commented in an interview with Associated Press Television about the first-ever partial face transplant performed in France. His interview was included Dec. 2 on the CBS Early Show.

Dr. Andrew Da Lio, associate clinical professor at UCLA’s Cosmetic Surgery Center, comments today in an Associated Press story about botox (Business News). The article appears in today’s San Jose Mercury News.

Dr. Peter Fodor, associate professor of plastic surgery, commented in an Oct. 16 New York Times Style Magazine article about the use of stem cells in cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Neil Jones, professor of plastic surgery, commented in a Sept. 26 Chicago Sun Times article on the medical risks of face transplants for patients. The controversial procedure is being considered by the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and the University of Louisville, as well as several European hospitals.
