Los Angeles Times Features Story of Iraqi Girl Helped by UCLA Team
In an extensive front page story, the Oct. 15 Los Angeles Times profiled the saga of a 12-year-old Iraqi girl disfigured by war wounds who came to UCLA Medical Center for nasal reconstruction surgery. Her surgeon, Dr. Timothy Miller, chief of plastic surgery, and her interpreter, Theresa Moussa, an international patient coordinator at UCLA Medical Center, were quoted throughout the story. The article was also published Oct. 15 on websites of The Argus (San Francisco) and KTLA-Channel 5.

Los Angeles Times, Reuters, Associated Press, La Opinion, CNN, KCBS Channel 2, KNBC Channel 4, KTLA Channel 5, KABC Channel 7, KCAL Channel 9, KTTV Channel 11, Telemundo, Azteca TV, KSCI Channel 18, Voice of America, KABC 790 AM, KFI 640 AM, KFWB 980 AM, KNX 1070 AM, KPCC 89.3 FM covered a June 12 press conference with UCLA plastic surgeons who reconstructed the nose of a 12-year-old Iraqi girl who was injured in a blast near her Baghdad home. Dr. Timothy Miller, chief of plastic surgery was quoted.

Azeteca TV Profiles Patient Undergoing Reconstructive Surgery
On Oct. 13, Azteca TV’s KAZA-Channel 54 featured the story of a 21-year-old patient with severe fibrous dysplasia, a bone disorder that destroys normal bone structure and replaces it with scar-like tissue, who underwent reconstructive surgery at UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Henry Kawamoto, clinical professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery, was interviewed.

MORE Magazine Spotlights Plastic Surgeon’s Study on the Dangers of Herbal Medicine and Plastic Surgery
The Sept. 2006 issue of MORE Magazine featured Dr. James Bradley, associate professor of surgery, in a story explaining why patients should tell their surgeons about any herbal medicines they are taking prior to surgery.

Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and UPI Highlight Study of Herbal Supplement Use By Plastic Surgery Patients
A Feb. 14 United Press International (UPI) story, and articles in the Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, the Jackson Clarion Ledger (MS) and Medical News Today on Feb. 20, featured results of a study on the use of herbal supplements by cosmetic surgery patients. Co-author Dr. James Bradley, associate professor of surgery, was quoted.

The March 6 cover story of Advance for Nurses spotlighted UCLA nurses who work in the field of plastic surgery. Dr. Michael McGuire, associate clinical professor of plastic surgery, commented in a June 26 Los Angeles Times article on cosmetic injectiables.

Dr. Andrew Da Lio, associate clinical professor at UCLA’s Cosmetic Surgery Center, commented in a Dec. 22 Associated Press story about botox.
